A Pale Crawler Scary Story

by Eli Voss

Miles's mom's Ring camera keeps triggering between 2 and 4 AM. The footage shows nothing. The motion-detection log says otherwise. Then Dex isolates a single frame where the exposure adjusted to something at the edge of the yard: pale, low to the ground, too long in the limbs. It comes back every night. Each time a little closer. Miles hears his mom calling from the backyard at 3 AM — his mom is at work. The scratches on the siding are eight feet up. The anomaly isn't somewhere they have to go find. It's already home.
